A card-tote and tutorial :)

2008-01-31I’ve got to thank Denise for the inspiration for today’s project. She’s been doing these amazing card totes lately, based on a tutorial by Leslie Miller. So, thank you! : )

While making the tote I had some problems with scoring the lines, and I discovered you could actually use the grooves in the Tonic paper trimmer as guides, like the popular Scor-Pal. I made a tutorial for it, and as the last one, you have to click on the link at the end of this post to get to it.

I haven’t made the cards to go in it yet, I hope to share those with you in the next few days. I also haven’t decided if I’ll be using sentiments in spanish or english, because I don’t know who I’ll give this gift.

I love this medallion from the Baroque Motifs set turned diagonally (it’s rock-and-rolled, too). It looks so much better than ’square’. This was my very least favourite stamp from this set, but that changed now. I love it this way. So, the lesson would be to look at your stamps in different ways, maybe you’ll find a surprise and fall in love again with it : )

Very Baroque

2008-01-28Wow, is it 28 yet? Where did the first month of 2008 go?!? I’ve been having a blast creating, even though the last days have been a litthe hard in that department :p

Today’s card is based on Julee’s Mojo Monday #22, it is the first time I’ve played on the current challenge. Speaking of firsts… this is also the first time I use the crackled glass technique. But where, do you ask? The little medallion with the ribbon. I tried taking an upclose picture for details but my camera just messed up the focus (it looks better on the fullsize version, so click the picture ;).

All supplies are by Stampin Up! (excepto for the clear ep, which I’m running out of). Anyone wanna donate some ep to a starving artist? (starving for supplies, lolz). Nah, just kidding :)

I liked it so much that I made a tutorial for it. I know this is a fairly known technique so I’ll leave it “hidden”. If you’d like to check it out click on the “Read the rest of the entry” link at the end of the post.

Sketch Filler #2 and Tutorial

Hello everyone! I won’t be crafting this weekend because I had to come with my parents to Iquique. Well, as we say in spanish “When the captain orders, soldiers follow”. Not good for me, I have a bit of a problem with authority :pSo, here’s a little sketch for you, that have time to stamp but no ideas. It’s a little remake of some old cards I made months ago. I want to make a set with this sketch using In-Colors and the “Gently Falling” retired SU! set. Oh, the grey thing in the bottom part of the main image is supposed to be ribbon :p I also made a little tutorial about how to make scallops in Adobe Photoshop. I bet there’s an easier way, but for now, this is how I do it (click on “Read more” for the tutorial)

Small tutorial - Self-adhesive circles for your projects

Just something I found out a couple of months by experimenting. I don’t think it is a new idea or anything, but just wanted to share :) Pictures are kinda sucky in big resolution because my hand couldn’t keep steady, but if you really want to see them for a detail you can find the original size on my Flickr account.

Step 1: Gather your supplies. For this little project I used a 1/4″ handheld punch and mounting foam (but I think you could use up to a 1/2″ punch with this 3M mounting tape).
Step 2 Carefully place the mounting foam tape in the punch. Don’t worry about it being sticky, it falls easily. But you can also try using some scrap of protective tape (from a previous project maybe) to cover the sticky side if you are not really sure.
Step 3: Result This is how it turns out. I also use the negative space that was left on the tape for later projects. Yes, I am cheap :p
Step 4: Voila! Adhere your recently made adhesive circle to your embelishment and then onto your project and you’re ready to go :)

I don’t know it this actually is more economical than real glue dots. I started making them because I haven’t seen glue dots on local stores and I really didn’t want to order some online, so you see it was more necessity than any other thing. You had to see me when I found mounting foam on a small 3M store (run by an old man) really hidden in the downtown of mi city, he even has vellum tape! I was over the moon, I tell you!! :D

This tutorial is for dimensional self-adhesive circles, but I have also done this with plain double side tape (also from 3M) and works like a charm for little punched images or ribbon :)

Edited to change name

ETA2: You can also use wax paper to cover the sticky side of the tape, so the punched circle doesn’t stick to the punch :) (someone in OSA suggested that, thanks!)
