Flocked Bird

Hi! I finally made something “post worthy” ;) This one is for Beate’s Weekend Sketch Challenge #54, I just flipped the sketch like if you looked it in a mirror so it’d work with my image (I hope it still counts, LOL).

I loved this sheet of patterned paper and I was just so lucky yesterday to find a matching piece of cardstock! So I cut the cardstock to make a 5″ square card and trimmed the paper to 4 3/4″ square.

I stamped my bird with a Glue Pad and then with purple pigment ink to flock it with matching flock, very nice effect :) Then I matted it with a vellum circle that I scalloped with a corner round (same old, same old).

The orange strip was stamped with a bird in Versamark repeteadly to make a pattern and at the end I made a knot using this video tutorial.

The only thing I regret is that the bird is a little crooked, but one can’t win them all :P

Estivalia.

Stamps: “Always” set (Stampin’ up!), “Decorative Birds” set (Hero Arts). Ink: Versamark (Tsukineko), Wisteria chalk ink (Colorbox).Paper: Indigo cardstock, orange textured cardstock, “Aerial” paper pack (Memory Box), vellum. Misc: Scalloped scissor, grossgrain ribbon, medium corner rounder punch (EK Success).

Oh, and a bonus (because I couldn’t resist sharing this cute pic of Pimienta :)

Mojo Monday on Wednesday

2008-06-11I was going to post this yesterday but the server my blog is hosted on crashed for a while last night. When it came back, I went and tried to publish again, but more than half my post was gone! :( Anyway, it was late so I left it until today, ugh.

My card today is based on Julee’s Mojo Monday 41 and using one of my favourite sheets from the new Memory Box paper pack. I didn’t want to cover up the paper I used instead a piece of vellum cut in one end with a scalloped scissor and heat embossed a swirl in white on the other side.

The satin ribbon is one my mom had in her stash and I embellished it with one of the scalloped ribbon sliders that I had been hoarding for the “perfect” time to use.

The Elzybell image is a RAK that Charlene sent me and I colored it with the following COPIC markers: R20 (Blush), RV11 (Pink), E00 (Skin White) E21 (Baby Skin Pink), E33 (Sand), W1(Warm Grey n°1) and W3 (Warm Grey n°3). I followed this blog post tutorial about shading with greys when you don’t have the right color. Great tip!

I’m a real slacker when it comes to participate on Julee’s sketch challenge. Truth be told, so many layers really intimidate me :P But I always like the result so I’ll try to participate more often!

Stamps: Girl on swing (Elzybells NA), Elegant Flourishes (Autumn Leaves), Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink).
Inks: Versamark (Tsukineko), Purely Pomegranate classic ink (Stampin! Up).
Papers: Grove paper pack (Memory Box), Purely Pomegranate cardstock (Stampin’ Up!), light brown textured cardstock.
Misc: Paper flowers, 1/8″ silver brads, ribbon slider (Stampin’ Up!), cream satin ribbon, Seafoam white embossing powder (Ranger), scalloped edge scissor.

Bird and tree sketch challenge

2008-05-31Hi people! Today’s card is based on Beate’s Weekend Sketch Challenge #50… WOW, it’s been almost a year since she started making these challenges. It feels like yesterday when I participated on the first one :)

I really enjoyed working on this card, and I think it came out really nice. Base is Wild Wasabi cardstock that I distressed with an inkpad and the patterned paper is from a new line by Memory Box, also distressed (but this one with a scissor).

I have no idea what company the stamped image is, I received it from Charlene. I colored the image with the following COPIC markers:

  • Tree: G28 (Ocean Green), YG03 (Yellow Green) and E29 (Burnt Umber)
  • Bird and pears: B00 (Frosted Blue), B14 (Light Blue) and W1 (Warm Grey N°1)

I know pears aren’t blue, but I didn’t wanted it to look too much like the christmas song :P I cut the image with my Coluzzle and then I used foam tape to adhere it a white cardstock circle (and finally to a brown scalloped one).

Then I tied some ribbon and adhered a small paper flower over the knot using Glossy Accents. The pearl was originally pink, but I painted over it with a white paint marker (kinda like Sharpie).

Aaand… that’s it :) Thanks for visiting today! On a side note… I have glitter, yay!! *jumps up and down* I got a jar of glitter and a glue pen from Stampin Treasures (along with the memory box paper). Great store, I tell you :)

Paper: Wild Wasabi and Chocolate Chip cardstock (Stampin’ Up!), Grove paper pack (Memory Box).
Misc: Soft Sky double stitched ribbon (Stampin’ Up!), Glossy Accents (Ranger), Burnt Umber palette (Stewart Superior), scissor, paper flower, pearl (Kaiser craft)

Samurai Boy

2008-05-20

When I saw the cute “Boys of the World” clipart on Allison’s blog I just couldn’t resist! I had to make a card with this cute samurai boy :)

This is a 10″ x 4″ piece of light brown textured cardstock that I scored at 3″ and 7 1/4″ to make a card with a different fold, like a gift-card holder. Behind the samurai boy there’s a velcro dot that keeps the card securely closed.

I printed the samurai boy on regular cardstock and colored it with colored pencils and a golden metallic gel pen for some accents on the helmet (that I also covered with Glossy Accents).

Then I adhered some washi paper over the base as well as a small strip of green cardstock that I faux stitched. I wanted to make a more manly card for Claudio (because in 2 weeks it’s our anniversary ♥) but I think I somewhat failed because of the floral washi paper so I decided to just keep it up an added a small cherry blossom and a swirl on the bottom of the card :P

I won’t give up on this card making for guys thing (not with father’s day around the corner, jiosh), so expect more of this to come! :)

Stamps: Elegant Flourishes by Rhonna Farrer (Autumn Leaves).
Inks: Burnt Umber Palette.
Papers: Washi paper, light brown textured opaline, sienna brown textured cardstock and white cardstock.
Misc: “Boys of the World” clipart, Glossy Accents, Prismacolor coloring pencils, Karat Aquarel watercolor pencils, medium cherry blossom paper punch (Carla Craft), Scalloped circle paper punch (Stampin’ Up), velcro dot, foam tape, paper piercer, metallic gel pen.

Pastel Polka Dots

2008-03-06

Today was ultra-super Happy Mail Day! :D I got the Crop-a-Dile I bought from eBay and…. an awesome box full of goodies sent to me by Laura!! (we were actually a little worried it had gone lost, so it was a “fangirl” attack when I got it this morning!).

Anyway, I played with my new goodies but I had actually started this card yesterday, that’s why there are no new goodies in it -but soon! lol.

So, this is my entry for Mojo Monday #27, I just fliped the layout horizontally. It’s Mojo Madness people, so get your entries done!! I’m not very convinced about mine, so I’ll try again tomorrow.

Also, I found out my crappy embossing was not the fault of my nearly-dried Versamark. I’ve always had problems with the coverage of images but yesterday I tried several times and it was the same thing again… even though I just refilled my pad! So, I’m assuming it’s my embossing powder. Probably, I don’t even know what brand it is (I got it in a trade, and came in a plastic baggie). So, I’m getting that next.

I added some Stardust Stickles to the polka dots on the ladybug… extra sparkly, yum! I also added some spark to the ladybug path with other clear glitter pen.

I wanted to try and mix black with some pastel colors. I think I didn’t fail so terribly :)

Estivalia.

Stamps: “Little Lady” set, “Mixed Messages” set (both by Papertrey Ink).
Inks: Jet Black Staz-On (Tsukineko).
Papers: Black, pink and celery cardstock (misc.), Polka dot patterned paper (Sandylion).
Misc: Black stitched grossgrain ribbon, Stardust Stickles (Ranger), Stardust clear glitter pen (Sakura), flower paper punch, medium corner rounder.

Funky/retro lovebirds

2008-03-02

I’m feeling sooooo much better now that I finished the meds, yay! Today is the last day of summer vacation for most students… not for me, I still have “free” until 2nd opportunity exams are over (around March 15th). But I’ll be going to the university library to study (not that it’ll be open -finally!).

Anyway, onto more pleasant subjects… cards! :p I made this one based on Beate’s Weekend Sketch Challenge #37. You know me… I love sketch challenges, they really take out the work of guessing. This is a 4 1/4″ square card made from textured opaline, in the background there’s some patterned paper I bought locally and scalloped on one end.
Again, I used my new Hero Arts birds. I wanted them to look like they were kissing, but since my alignment really sucks (I blame it on that I can only see with my right eye, lol) and I wasn’t really feeling like taking out my stamp positioner… I came out with a much simple solution! I grabbed the 2 stamps and wrapped masking tape around the wood blocks, so they’d stay together. It was also easier just to ink “one” stamp than 2 ;)

Some parts of the birds didn’t turn out properly, but I used a brown fineliner to draw the missing lineart. The bird on the left is paper pieced with some of the paper from the background and the other one was colored with COPIC markers in the following colors:

  • R08 (Vermillion), E33 (Sand), E37 (Sepia), G00 (Jade Green)
  • w1 (Warm Gray No. 1) was used to draw a subtle shadow/border around the birds and some sort of dust/soil for they to stand on.
  • R08 (Vermillion) was used to draw a small heart above the birds.

Tip: With the Super Brush nib, press a little and, without lifting the marker, make a small stroke. This will be the half of your heart, so repeat in the opposite direction to complete it… hope I made sense!

I also used a white gel pen to enhance the little polka dots on the wing of the bird on the right. Finally I rounded 2 of the corners of this panel and mated it twice, keeping the same corners rounded.

Then, across the card, I adhered some vellum and red satin ribbon in 2 widths. There is the one that goes across the card and another for the bow (which I made following a PDF made by Lauren some time ago).

Finally, I rounded the bottom corners of the cards. Whew! I think it looks a little empty without a sentiment somwhere, but I still like it enough to just leave it there for a while :) Thanks for looking!

Ink: Burnt Umber Palette (Stewart Superior).
Paper: white cardstock, cream textured opaline, vellum, Soft Sky cardstock (Stampin’ Up!), “Confetti” patterned paper (Sandylion).

Hero Arts meets Memory Box

2008-02-29

Today was happy mail day, I got my goodies from Stampin’ Treasures. I can’t begin to say how much I LOVE that store. They had most of the things I wanted and what they did not, Diane was kind enough to special order it for me. Amazing customer service, I tell you, and very good shipping rates :)

I’m very happy for this store’s service because it’s been a rough week for me, as an international stamper. A few days ago I wrote to eP to ask for some items they had on sale and they replied that they are no longer taking international orders (which disappointed me a little, I had my eyes on some stuff). Then, yesterday (or was it the day before?) PapertreyInk announced that they’ll only offer insured/certified mail, doubling the shipping costs for their international customers.

I think it is a bit unfair, that most stores have some sort of discount (or free shipping) for their U.S customers and they won’t give us an equivalent discount. I mean, even with a $10 discount I’d be inmensely happy.

Oh well, enough ranting for a day. Back to my new goodies…mI got these gorgeous Hero Arts bird stamps I’ve been wanting since last year, some patterned paper, a new inkpad and some really needed refills for old inkpads :)

So, you know me… I couldn’t resist using my new toys art supplies, right away. In need of a starting point I based this card on the Mojo Monday #22 sketch.

The bird was stamped in dark brown ink and colored with the following COPIC markers: W3, B00, Y00, Y11, Y17. Then I cut it out and adhered it to a scalloped rectangle with dimensionals (mated with vellum).

Next to it I adhered a small orange fabric flower, and my sentiment over it, it’s a 9/16″ circle. I used two sentiments from a PapertreyInk set to make it, in different colors.

I don’t think this card looks nice enough, considering the amount of time it took me. I blame it on that I’ve been having headaches the last few days, because of the meds I had to take for the spider bite. This was the last day of them, so I should be back on track by tomorrow or later. Thanks for visiting today :)

Mojo Skull

2008-02-26

So, my arm looks way better today and it doesn’t hurt :) The meds have me sleepy most of the day, so that’s why this card took so long.

This is my entry for Mojo Monday #26 and my colores were inspired by another entry. I’m giving this card to my younger sister (age: 16) so that’s why it very “grungy”, at least to me :)

My card is a 4 1/4″ square one and even though I really really tried to follow the sketch and make 4 squares, it just didn’t work for me. The black cardstock has some sort of “leather” texture which I loved, because I think it goes very well with the whole theme.

Both the heart and the skull are Gungeboard (can you tell I’m getting adicted?), the heart was embossed with black UTEE and the skull painted with gouache and chalk inks (the edges are distressed with a little bit of river rock ink).

I’m also enyojing adding brads to my designs. Here I used them in the flower center and in the edges of the card (since I don’t have a ticker corner punch I used my  1/4″ circle punch to make something similar.

There’s a LOT of dimension on this card (for the grungeboard and because I used foam tape in a lot of places, lol). So I took another picture for a little detail:

Thanks for visiting me today, I hope to make something later to post tomorrow :)

Winter-floral Elzybell

2008-02-13

Hello everyone and happy Valentine’s Day! :) Right now (1am) I don’t have any valentine card to share, but I’ll be making one really quick tomorrow for my fiancé. We say chileans do everything at the last minute and what can I say, I’m a proud chilean girl ;)

This card is for Mojo Monday #24… love this sketch challenge! I love to make cards with many layers but I just can’t create a design that uses them. Now that I think of it, it’s a strange card.. winter image with floral patterned paper? Oh well, I’m happy I used that Basic Grey paper.

Main image was colored with COPIC markers (will post the actual colors tomorrow), classic reinkers and a clear glitter pen to add some spark, though it’s not really visible. I mated it with pink cardstock and vellum (something I saw on Nichole’s blog).

Oh yeah… some may remember that a few weeks ago I talked about an old man that ran a store filled with 3M products (my favourite adhesives), that the store was closed and we didn’t know anything about it? Well, Claudio found him! He as a new store near my place now, I’m so happy he didn’t went out of business :) (my local supermarket/art supplies stores are really sucky… it’s hard enought to find double sided tape).

So… that’s enough for today.

Paper: Soft sky cardstock (Stampin Up!), white cardstock, Lilykate patterned paper (Basic Grey)
Stamps: “Girl with sleigh” (Elzybells NA)
Ink: Burnt Umber Palette (Stewart Superior)

Mojo inspired ladybug

2008-02-08

Hey… looks like I’m going in a “Little Lady” phase, LOL. The stamps are new for me and I have to make up for months of wanting this sets, sorry :p

Today’s card is also my entry for Mojo Monday #23 (Mojo Madness), a challenge by Julee Tilman from Verve Visual.  I’ve just decided to make a new resolution, to participate at least twice a month in some sort of challenge or contest. I’d love to be part of a design team (… sometime) and the challenges put me out of my comfor zone.

Also, there’s only stamping on this card, no fancy patterned paper :) That said, I started by wanting to make a ladybug in its own colors (because of a comment Patty posted earlier) so I grabbed out white, black and red cardstock and inks.

I made my “patterned paper” in the background with the medium and small flowers and the ladybug trail that comes with the set and distressed the edges with my scissor.

On the red layer there is some paper piercing and the black border is not really a layer, I painted the edges with a COPIC black multiliner (a faux-layer technique Heather posted some long time ago on the OSA group). And there’s another faux brad on the flower… I really need to get some colored brads, lol.

So, I’ll leave you with the supplies list, take care and thanks for looking! :)
