First Christmas Card

Hi everyone! Today’s card is the beggining of Christmas card-making here at PaperLeisure :D (or so I hope). I’m still unsure wether I’ll be mass producing this one or making different designs, but whatever it is it’ll in this color combination that I saw on the SU! catty and couldn’t resist.

I started with a base of Naturals Ivory cardstock and rounded the bottom corners only. On the Old Olive layer I heat embossed some swirls in gold (and that why the picture has that angle, so you can see the shimmer, wonderful!).

The Ruby Red strip of cardstock that goes across the card in the middle (sorta) was stamped with polka dots in Versamark, for a subtle effect. I was going to emboss them with clear ep, but then I though it’d be 2 layers of embossing in a mass-produced card. Now, that are way to many trips to the toaster, so I left it with Versamark alone, lol :) Oh well, I digress. So then I matted it with a metallic cardstock an added some big brads to the ends.

The center image was stamped with dark browm chalk ink and colored with shimmery chalks. I cut it into an oval with a Coluzzle template, distressed the edges with a scissor and added to the center of the card with dimensional tap.

Well, I’m off to look for some ideas for more christmas cards. Oh, and thanks to Laura and Sandra for noticing the design change. Though I didn’t make it myself, I tweaked it a little here and there to better suit my site. Have a lovely sunday! :)

Mojo Monday on Wednesday

2008-06-11I was going to post this yesterday but the server my blog is hosted on crashed for a while last night. When it came back, I went and tried to publish again, but more than half my post was gone! :( Anyway, it was late so I left it until today, ugh.

My card today is based on Julee’s Mojo Monday 41 and using one of my favourite sheets from the new Memory Box paper pack. I didn’t want to cover up the paper I used instead a piece of vellum cut in one end with a scalloped scissor and heat embossed a swirl in white on the other side.

The satin ribbon is one my mom had in her stash and I embellished it with one of the scalloped ribbon sliders that I had been hoarding for the “perfect” time to use.

The Elzybell image is a RAK that Charlene sent me and I colored it with the following COPIC markers: R20 (Blush), RV11 (Pink), E00 (Skin White) E21 (Baby Skin Pink), E33 (Sand), W1(Warm Grey n°1) and W3 (Warm Grey n°3). I followed this blog post tutorial about shading with greys when you don’t have the right color. Great tip!

I’m a real slacker when it comes to participate on Julee’s sketch challenge. Truth be told, so many layers really intimidate me :P But I always like the result so I’ll try to participate more often!

Stamps: Girl on swing (Elzybells NA), Elegant Flourishes (Autumn Leaves), Mixed Messages (Papertrey Ink).
Inks: Versamark (Tsukineko), Purely Pomegranate classic ink (Stampin! Up).
Papers: Grove paper pack (Memory Box), Purely Pomegranate cardstock (Stampin’ Up!), light brown textured cardstock.
Misc: Paper flowers, 1/8″ silver brads, ribbon slider (Stampin’ Up!), cream satin ribbon, Seafoam white embossing powder (Ranger), scalloped edge scissor.

Litte bird message

2008-05-06

Hello :) Sorry I was MIA this last week. I spent the long weekend on Iquique with my family and, when I got back students took over the campus (as way to pressure authorities to meet some demands about different problems in my university).

Oh, well, onto my project :) It is not technically a card, it’s more like a postcard or card-front, the message goes inside the envelope. I got the idea from the Hero Arts Club Blog (using envelopes on your projects was one of their weekly challenges).

I stamped the bird over colored cardstock with brown ink and colored the wings with Prismacolor pencils and a white ink gel pen. I also used some of the new stuff I got from Blockhead Stamps, embossing powder for the background and Glossy Accents for the wings (though it’s not really visible).I love both! Though embossing has been a little tricky to learn.

The fact that I sneezed while having my Versamark and embossing powder jar open at the same time didn’t make it any easier, LOL! Now my pad ocassionally throws in some little black speckles when I stamps (less everytime I use it :P). Dunno, if it doesn’t start to work properly soon I’ll better replace it.

Oh, well, gotta run! :P Take care and thank you for stopping by.

Stamps: Decorative Birds set (Hero Arts), clear stamps (Studio G), Polka Dot background stamp (Stampin’ Up).
Inks: Burnt Umber Palette (Stewart Superior), Versamark (Tsukineko).
Paper: Aerial paper pad (Memory Box), Soft Sky cardstock (Stampin’ Up), light brown textured opaline, mini envelope.
Misc: Striped grossgrain ribbon (Stampin’ Up), clear button, white fabric flower, Seafoam White embossing powder (Ranger), Glossy Accents (Ranger), colored pencils (Prismacolor), 1/8″ silver brad, Crop-A-Dile, medium corner rounder (EK Success).

Vellum cat

2008-04-03

Vellum… it really sounds like “Gollum”, lol (dorkyLOTRmoment). Hi everyone! :) I made this card yesterday but the day was so cloudy and light so sucky I didn’t took a picture.

Still using bits & pieces that Charlene sent me :P And a couple things to notice:

  • I don’t know why the brads look gold, they’re in fact silver.
  • The white ribbon actually holds the card closed (something nice that came up from wraping my ribbon around the whole card instead of just the front).

The background was made with a Polka Dot background with Versamark and then I went over the little dots with a clear glitter pen.

Well, that’s all for today :) Gotta go because I don’t feel to well (looks like the french fries I had yesterday were a little bad for me).

Stamps: Sleeping Cats (Kodomo), Polka dot background (Stampin Up!), Elegant Flourishes by Rhonna Farrer (Autumn Leaves).
Inks: Blue Bayou classic ink (Stampin Up!), Versamark and Jet Black Staz-On (Tsukineko).
Papers: White cardstock, vellum, blue textured cardstock (Bazzill?), Wild Wasabi and Purely Pomegranate cardstock (Stampin Up!).
Misc: Stardust clear glitter pen (Sakura), 1/8″ silver brads, 1/8 silver eyelet, Crop-A-Dile, white grossgrain ribbon (Stampin Up!), medium corner rounder (EK Success).

Distressed Bird

2008-03-25

A “quick” card for today. Thank you everyone for all your comments, I feel so much better now :)

I did the background for the bird using a paper tissue to apply ink to the cardstock, I like the “old wood” look of it, distressed the edges with a scissor and mated it with vellum.

The patterned papers are distressed with the same ink that I used to stamp. I’m very happy with the distress ink color that I chose, it’s been so useful for me (I searched high and low for THE perfect color, which is hard when you can’t see it IRL lol).

On other news… I’ve been thinking of getting SU! inkspots in some color families, but I can’t decide if I’ll go with Classic of Craft. I wanted the Craft spots because I can emboss with them but I also want Classic for watercoloring. I can’t get both (at least not right now) but I recently found Michelle Zindorf’s blog and she has succesfully embossed with dye inks (she loads the stamp with Versamark and then with the color ink). So, apparently I’ll go with Classic, but first I’ll try that technique myself (once I get decent embossing powder).

So, I’ll hopefully see you soon. Thanks for stopping by :)

Stamps: “Always” (Stampin Up!), “Little Lady” (Papertrey Ink).
Inks: Tea Dye Distress Ink (Tim Holtz), Soft Sky Classic ink (Stampin Up!).
Papers: Soft Sky cardstock (Stampin Up!), “Aerial” (Memory Box), white cardstock misc.
Misc: vellum, scissor, tissue paper.

Rough Week

2008-03-20

Hi everyone! Sorry for the lack of posts, on my defense I had a rough week. I had to make two assignments for the same day AND I got the flu, yay for me! But this long weekend I’ll catch up, promise!

So, let’s start with a simple card. It all started with the paper, which has blue butterflies in it. I noticed the largest one had a color very much like Blue Bayou so I paired it with a misc. brown cardstock. Unfortunately I trimmed the wrong side of the paper so the “big butterfly” is missing and perhaps doesn’t make as much sense now, LOL.

Then I realized I have no butterfly stamps (OMGosh, gotta solve that! any suggestion? ;) so I went with my favourite theme… birds! I stamped it with brown ink and colored with a reinker and a Copic marker (R20 - Blush).

I think the bottom part looks a little empty (and that is why I cheated and put my watermark there :p) but I couldn’t figure out what to do there. So, when in doubt… leave it there to avoid messing up, which is a lesson I’ve learned over time (the hard way) and that’s specially true when I feel sick.

Oh, well… happy thursday that feels like friday for all of you! :)

Stamp: “Decorative Birds” (Hero Arts).
Inks: Burnt Umber Palette (Stewart Superior), Blue Bayou Classic reinker (Stampin’ Up!).
Paper: “Far East” collection (DCWV), Blue Bayou cardstock (Stampin’ Up), white cardstock (misc.).
Misc: Blue Bayou double stitched ribbon (Stampin’ Up!), Scalloped circle punch (Stampin’ Up!), 1/4″ Pink grossgrain ribbon, Coluzzle, mounting foam tape.

Debossed vellum

2008-03-11

Hello everyone! Sorry I didn’t post today, it was a little bit ectic because of the whole school thing. I was already falling asleep at 11pm, so I didn’t make anything :P

Today I went out of classes early so I had time to finish this card. I had the embossed vellum ready since sunday, anyway. As you probably noticed, this card was totally copied from heavily inspired by Beate.

Vellum was debossed with a stylus an after I was done I went over the design with a white gel pen, so the white would really stand out.

Behind the vellum I placed some patterned paper from SU! in Soft Sky and adhered the thing with double sided tape, which is hidden by my “photo corners” (that I made with the scallop circle punch).

I was going to add some ribbon, but then I realized I’m not loving this card so much to spend some of my precious ribbon on it ♥ So, I added silver brads instead.

And there it is, just a quick post because I have to run to classes again, sorry!

Stamps: “Baroque Motifs” set (Stampin’ Up!).
Inks: Versamagic Cloud White (Tsukineko).
Papers: “Fall Flowers” patterned paper, Soft Sky and Wild Wasabi cardstock (all by Stampin’ Up!), white cardstock (misc).
Misc: Crop-a-Dile, 1/8″ silver brads, scallop circle punch (Stampin’ Up!).

Simple Heart

2008-03-09

Well, it’s still Sunday in my corner of the world :) I made this card quickly, this time all supplies are by SU!

For the heart image I used the “rock n’ roll” technique in both blue and green ink. LOVE this technique, it’s so easy to make something beautiful with it.

The “berries” are stamped with white chalk ink which I also used for distressing the edges. Well, since the rest is really self-explanatory I’ll leave you with the supply list. Tomorrow is first day at school so I’ll see if I can get some time to post. See ya then!

Stamps: “Always” set and Polka Dot background (Stampin Up!).
Inks: Blue Bayou and River Rock classic ink (Stampin Up!), Versamagic Cloud White (Tsukineko).
Papers: Blue Bayou and River Rock cardstock (Stampin Up!), white cardstock (misc).
Misc: River Rock stitched ribbon (SU!), medium corner rounder (EK Sucess).

Always…

2008-03-08

Just a quick post because I have to get to work… T-2 days until classes start! I am planning on working ahead because I love my blog and I don’t want it to gather dust on the week.

Remember when the catalog came out? I said I loved this birds but since I wasn’t sure about the rest of the stamps I wouldn’t get it. Well… so much for that one! As soon as I saw what people were doing with it I was sold! (mostly because of Beate’s awesome work).

The inspiration for this card came from a lot of places. The color combo is from a card in the catalog and the scalloped edge is to resemble SU! scalloped notes (which I saw on Jessica’s blog). And, choke on this, NO SKETCH, again! *gasp*.

I probably went a little crazo with the eyelets, but I’m loving my Crop-A-Dile so much I couldn’t help myself… it’s so much easy and less noisy! I’ll be buying a bunch of new eyelets as soon as I can.  The scalloped edge is actually the end of the card and the blue cardstock is on the inside, like this:

Pretty, isn’t it? ♥ So, I’m off to keep “working”, but I’ll leave you with two small neat tips I used:

Tip: Use a glue stick to temporarily mount your unmounted rubber stamps to an acrylic block. It’ll wash out easily with water and soap!

Tip: Bold stamps can be hard to ink and tend to turn out “blotchy”. I gently used a nail file to sand my stamps and it greatly improved the quality of the stamped image (it won’t damage your stamps).

I wish you all ware having a fun weekend, see ya tomorrow! :)

Lucky Me

2008-03-07

Hi everyone! For today’s card I’m using some of the awesome stuff Laura sent me as birthday gift,  THANK YOU THANK YOU! ♥ *hugkisesslovelove*

Yesterday was the birthday of a dear friend of mine, José, so I made a birthday card in his honor. I know it’s not purple, but I don’t have purple paper right now, sorry! :( Anyway, Happy Birthday Celph! ♥ *morehugsloveandkisses*.

Yesterday I also got some eBay orders, the circle punch and my Crop-A-Dile… and I’m loving both! Though I had a hard time at first setting eyelets I later realized it was because I was trying to set 1/8″ eyelets with the A-3 setting, lol! (on my defense, I was crafting at 1am!).

I loved this patterned paper and wanted to use it in a card, I was lucky enough to have COPIC markers in the coordinating colors! (YR02 -Light Orange- for Groovy Guava and W3 -Warm Grey N°3- for Sahara Sand). I was also NOT lucky because I don’t have Sahara Sand cardstock, so I grabbed another paper (which was mostly this color) and stamped it with the Polka Dot Background (love it! The PTI one is soooo going down on my list now).

I originally had colored and punched two birds, but I decided to use only one on the front, so… I adhered the other one to the inside of the card, as a little decoration! :)

And there it is. I think it’s the first time in a long while that I didn’t use any sketch and/or color challenge, makes me proud of myself :)
